Peñarol is considering buying Grêmio striker Matías Arezo for $4 million. According to a source, the deal will go through an internal vote at the Montevideo club, and it's likely to be approved. The transfer will cost $4 million, and the Uruguayan club has not yet made contact with Grêmio, but the option to buy is already structured in the loan contract. Grêmio owns 50% of the economic rights of the 23-year-old player, acquired in July 2024 from Granada (Spain) for 3 million euros. The other half belongs to River Plate (Uruguay), which also has pending financial claims against the Tricolor gaúcho. In the current season, Arezo has played 23 games and scored nine goals for Peñarol, including two in the Libertadores. Arezo has never been able to establish himself with Grêmio's jersey, and in May 2025, he expressed his desire to return to his native country. Grêmio granted his wish and loaned him to Peñarol in July of last year, renewing the link in December.
